Mechanical Design Engineering Intern

We are looking for a Mechanical Design Intern to support development of our world-class LiDAR systems.

What you'll be doing:

  • Support the design of components and assemblies for prototype systems. Own part drawings, DFM, and tolerance analyses when needed. 
  • Assemble prototypes and run characterization testing, or work with a contract manufacturer to assemble and test, to make critical product decisions.
  • Design fixtures to support product assembly, performance testing, and reliability testing
  • Coordinate with electrical, optical, and process engineers. 
  • Interact with suppliers for DFM feedback, part quoting and procurement

What you have:

  • 2+ years undergraduate study in materials fundamentals, solid mechanics, and heat transfer
  • Previous internship experience in mechanical/product design or manufacturing. High-volume production product preferred
  • Understanding of design for assembly and tolerance stack analysis
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes including machining, die-cutting, die-casting, injection molding 
  • The ability and desire to design in CAD (solidworks proffered) and be hands-on with assembly and test
  • A desire to learn, innovate, and express your ideas in a fast moving collaborative environment

Nice to have:

  • Experience or coursework in FEA and/or CFD
  • Research, internship experience, or coursework in optics or electromechanical actuators
  • Internship experience in an automotive OEM or supplier
