We are looking for a Mechanical Design Intern to support development of our world-class LiDAR systems.
What you'll be doing:
- Support the design of components and assemblies for prototype systems. Own part drawings, DFM, and tolerance analyses when needed.
- Assemble prototypes and run characterization testing, or work with a contract manufacturer to assemble and test, to make critical product decisions.
- Design fixtures to support product assembly, performance testing, and reliability testing
- Coordinate with electrical, optical, and process engineers.
- Interact with suppliers for DFM feedback, part quoting and procurement
What you have:
- 2+ years undergraduate study in materials fundamentals, solid mechanics, and heat transfer
- Previous internship experience in mechanical/product design or manufacturing. High-volume production product preferred
- Understanding of design for assembly and tolerance stack analysis
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes including machining, die-cutting, die-casting, injection molding
- The ability and desire to design in CAD (solidworks proffered) and be hands-on with assembly and test
- A desire to learn, innovate, and express your ideas in a fast moving collaborative environment
Nice to have:
- Experience or coursework in FEA and/or CFD
- Research, internship experience, or coursework in optics or electromechanical actuators
- Internship experience in an automotive OEM or supplier
